ParticipantHi Maureen,
Yes, sometimes changing the position of the hands or a slight angle adjustment does the trick. I tend to abduct my elbows when I do pushups, but modified them to keep the elbows in and push only as far as is comfortable.
ROM and shoulder flexibility are huge issues for me (sitting at a desk all day…). I would love a shoulder flexibility routine if you need some ideas for content 😉Thanks for responding!

ParticipantI know I struggle getting the same brands in Canada as some do in the US, so I would plug it into my fitness pal (or similar) and see if the macros match your meal plan.
I`ve been using Gardein beefless ground and it works (and tastes) great!Jolanda
ParticipantHi Naomi!
I added a magnesium supplement (with some other things) specifically for muscle cramps and twtches and I am happy to report that I haven’t had a charlie horse at night since! I am still a little careful with too heavy weights during my workout (for standing calf) but I’m building it up and taking it as it comes. OF course, my calf hates the foam roller but that is coming slowly as well. It’s been a VAST IMPROVEMENT! Thank you so much!

ParticipantHAHA! Thanks Maureen 🙂 Should be reading my program manual more carefully!

ParticipantI noticed this morning that my boobs are getting smaller and I had to shorten the straps on my sports bra yesterday during cardio!
Great work Karen!! Keep going 🙂

ParticipantHI Naomi,
I also had a question about the fat burner, since I’m new to this type of supplement. Is there somethng in particular I should look for? Something I should avoid? I know some of them come with “natural” ingredients that may or may not be healthy (and since supps aren’t regulated like pharmaceuticals are).
Thansk for your help!

ParticipantHi Nicole!!
Thanks for getting back to me so quick!
I can definitely do the tempeh meal and the waffles, I just don’t know what “egg replacer” and “vegan beef” are. I can look up the macros for the Beyond Meat chicken. Is the vegan beef from Beyond Meat as well?Yes, I don’t want to mess around with the meals too much, since phase I worked like a hot dang.
What I will most likely do is the waffles, cod, tempeh and shrimp meals- and all those meals sound exciting, I was just hoping for one or two options to switch out during the month. Thanks again!

ParticipantIt’s a fine line sometimes between pushing ourselves and pushing ourselves too hard. So no worries, Alicia! I mostly err on the side of resting it out when I feel bad, so I know there are days that I can push myself harder. It’s a philosophy that has kept me relatively injury free, especially during my hard running days- but I may need to reassess this for my (new) gym goals!
Thanks for the kind words and I hope you are enjoying the challenge!

ParticipantI’m going to cook mine in the pressure cooker!

ParticipantYou guys are so sweet! What an incredible group of supportive people 🙂
I ended up with a migraine shortly after the post on Sunday, so I stayed home and rested in the dark. But I had an awesome workout on Monday!!Just wanted to say a huge thank you for your support. It means a ton!

ParticipantI’ve already lost touch with a good friend because everything we did together centred either around brunch or drinks. I wanted to hang out for coffee, but he didn’t like that idea. So now we don’t hang out. It makes me sad that he doesn’t understand that not everything needs to revolve around food and alcohol.

ParticipantI feel for you, sciatica is the worse pain I ever experienced!
I found yoga stretches like thread the need and pigeon done twice a day really helped me out. ALso gentle backbends (supported bridge pose, or other poses like lying on a soft cushion/bolster/blanket) were helpful. It took some time but consistency pays off. Also, be careful about rolling the area, the rolling might just irritate the nerve more. Hot baths, hot waater bottles, and ibuprofen helped me too, but check with your doctor to see what is appropriate for you.
Good luck!Jolanda
ParticipantI stop what I’m doing and go do things to relax, have a good sleep and hopefully the next morning I am go to go!

ParticipantI have been using the garmin vivoactive 3. It measures heart rate on the wrist, has a decent battery life and is pretty enough for me to to wear as a day to day watch.
Jolanda
ParticipantThanks Naomi!

ParticipantI always think- If I’m not willing to drink it black, then I don’t want it bad enough!!
I’ve been trying to drink more tea which is easier on my stomach (and nerves)!
Jolanda
ParticipantMine is joli_does_it and I look forward to seeing all your progress!

ParticipantI also like Costco, but they don’t carry too many vegetarian options here in Canada (not sure if it’s any different in the US).
It is expensive buying quality food- but this is what you’re putting into your body and is so important!
But- I have found that I save money by buying in bulk and doing my food prep once (sometimes twice) a week. Since I’m eating the same things and I know how much I’m eating, there is almost NO WASTE. It also has really cut down on the fatigue of trying to figure out dinner all the time, which in my world is priceless.
Good luck!

ParticipantThanks Melissa! Thanks for your input. I guess there is always the risk of injury- belt or no belt- but even when I try to do my exercises with correct form, sometimes I just push myself a little too hard. I’m thinking the belt might help, especially for heavier low-rep leg days.
Jolanda
ParticipantThanks for posting back, Maureen!
Any advice on purchasing a belt- good brands, things to look for, things to steer clear of? I see that there is a wide variety in quality (and price!).Jolanda
ParticipantThis is a great question! I also have lower back issues, and they especially flare up after a solid leg day (squats and deadlifts seem to aggravate it)! Maybe the belt will help?

ParticipantHi! I’m a veterinary pathologist and full time grad student in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. My thesis is due at the end of the month! Yikes! I stopped prioritizing my health when I left practice to go to grad school and gained over 20lb. Alcohol is my crutch, but I’m looking forward to getting my health and mental well-being back!
Good luck everyone! -
