ParticipantI am 3 years post op. This was my biggest struggle and no one would give me guidance. The DR’s/nutritionists don’t understand building muscle and kept referring me to the original plan pre-surgery with sugar substitutes and minimal calories. Weightlifters didn’t seem to understand capacity or how some foods KILL you, while others don’t. They are very hesitant to provide medical advice, so I was left on my own.
Everyone is different. You have to rewrite your body’s manual on your own. I will not tell you what to do, but I will tell you what I have learned for myself.
I cannot force myself to eat. I eat until I am full, then come back to it later.
It took me a long time to be able to tolerate most protein sources, so I lean heavily on what I CAN eat. I might eat 30g of protein in greek yogurt, rather than chicken, but I get those 30grams. Carbs are really tricky. 3 years later, I still can’t really eat bread or more than a spoonful of rice, so I get my carbs through maybe 50grams of rice and 50grams of beans, because I can tolerate those.
I started to understand about macros… How much your body needs and how to balance them. Nicole includes macros for each meal and for each day, such helps a lot! If I can’t physically take in my macros with food, I get it in a protein shake and add the appropriate amount of avocado, coconut oil, or fruit. You have to improvise what works for you you, but try to meet those numbers.
And mostly, protein builds muscle. Aim to meet your protein and water needs first and your fats and carbs second.Good luck to you!

ParticipantYou are on the right plan. Just see it through. Right now, we are in phase 1, where we are building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Come phase 2, the weight will drop off and the muscle will be more evident.
Good luck!

ParticipantThe plan makes allowances for other brands of sprouted bread. Killer Dave’s makes a sprouted bread, but I can’t tell if this is it. Pepperidge Farms and Armor both make sprouted bread, too, and are more affordable.
