    Hello Nicole

It sounds weird but I have a question about skin. I know that your competition prep means that you are losing 10-15lbs every year and you’ve mentioned previously that you also sunbathe so I wondered about your skin routine and if you have any tips on how to keep the skin tight particularly on the tummy and glute area. I have heard that some competitors use creams for this, have you heard of these? Do they work?

Thank you for all the information you share, it’s a great site and it really helps.
    Best Regards from England xx

My reply was shortened somehow so here it is again, hopefully!

I do understand what you mean about feeling the odd one out Taylor. Even though I’m a lot older than you (47) there are times when I also feel like a different species because I’m not drinking or socialising and keeping to a strict training and diet protocol. It did bother me a little more when I was younger but as I’ve got older and seen the differences in the way women my age look and feel compared to myself, as well as my general energy levels and state of health it’s less bothersome. I’ve also found that as time goes on, people get used to the way you are and accept it more – it kind of becomes part of your personality and they comment less. Also there are a few of us fit girls around and when you find them it’s good to keep in contact in whatever way you can as it can be very supportive to have a listening ear. That’s why these forums are so great – thanks Nicole xx

Finally I would say that even if it has meant a lifetime of being the odd one out, it’s something that has had so many positive benefits in terms of my health, career, relationships and overall passion for life, that it’s been well worth it. It’s what makes me special and it’s what will make you special too so welcome to the club 😉

Hope a different perspective helps and I wish you the best of luck as you start out.
    Best wishes, Sam xx

    Hi Zach,
The wheat we currently use for bread in the west is a dwarf variety which requires more yeast, and thus more sugar and then stabilisers and preservatives as a result. That makes it both a high glycemic index food and a highly processed food. Many people find it difficult to digest and can experience water retention as well as having the problem of insulin spiking. Some people can get away with it but I find I get more hungry with it as well as feeling a little bloated compared to rice or potatoes. You have to see how it affects you and decide from there.

    Hope that helps

Just to say that I’ve had to change my sleeping position completely as I’ve gained enough muscle on my shoulders (thanks Nicole! X) to make it uncomfortable and causing occasional pins and needles/numbness in my usual position. it was hard work but changing pillows an shifting my arms by my sides has helped enormously.
