If you have heard me talk about it before, you know how important stretching is to me. Reducing injury, increasing circulation, helping with recovery … all of the above and more are just a few of the benefits, as I mentioned previously in this back stretching video.
Along with back, I always prioritize lower body stretching because those muscles are involved in so many of our workout routines and in our daily lives. Here is a typical lower-body stretching routine. As I mention in the video I will do this after almost every leg workout.
Great routine Nicole, that you for sharing! Love stretching out my lower body, always good to have a new cooldown routine to try out.
Log in to replyTY Nicole! I have skipped stretching for a long time and now it has become a problem for my hip flexors in which I cannot do lunges now without pain. I appreciate you sharing this. I am going to commit to making this a part of my training – 🙂
Log in to replyA much-needed stretch routine after my lower body workout! Thanks for the video! I usually feel the burn for a few days after my leg routine; this will definitely help, thanks!
Log in to replyI finally went to a physical therapist for my plantar fasciitis and the calf stretches were a life savor. As well as foot stretches and foot strengthening exercises. I’ll for sure try the downward dog calf stretches to see how they feel as opposed to the standing ones I currently do.
Log in to replyThanks!!
some great yoga routines would be great too
Log in to replyThis is so helpful, thank you for sharing!
Log in to replyHi Nicole! Stretching is something I definitely don’t do enough of so thank you, this is fab!!!
Log in to replyWould these stretches and other stretches in general still be effective if someone does not have time to complete them immediately post work-out but maybe first thing in the mornings or a night? Thank you Nicole!
Log in to replyI’ve also been slack with my stretching – especially after a run!! Coming back from illness has given me a BIG slap in the face and shown me how INFLEXIBLE i am now. Soooooooo… I am now going to promise to myself to do this after legs and after my runs during the week. I want to get back to beign as flexible as I used to be!!
Log in to replythank you Nicole
Thanks for sharing. I have a question, Is it good to stretch before working out? Or better do the after a work out?
Log in to replyOh I’ve been waiting for this since last year <3
Log in to replyI am extremely inflexible and tight…will try to work on this now.
Thank you Nicole!! I’m a runner who runs anywhere from 25 to 30 miles per week!! My calf muscles get so tight and painful. I really needed these stretches. They seem to help a lot!! I’m going to do these for my legs after I run and whenever I go a legs and butt workout. I like the downward dog calf stretch. Right now my left calf is sore but the stretching has helped!! I’ll do this right after my run tomorrow morning again!! Thanks again Nicole! You’re awesome!!
Log in to replyHi Nicole! I’m actually Kiran Kaur on Facebook!! I use my short form of my first name and my middle name on Facebook!!
Nicole my left calf is quite sore and tight. I run a lot and I’m actually on a #runningstreak Day 142 today when I run. I’ve been doing the dynamic stretching for runners before and after running and also during the day too plus your lower body stretching video yesterday too. Plus I ice my calf muscle too. Pls let me know what else I should do. I can’t let my #runningstreak stop. Thank you Nicole! You’re amazing!!
Log in to replyNicole I can run. I ran today too of course. It just hurts and is stiff when I start moving and then the pain goes away and I can run and run fast. My heart was working on anaerobic rate today at 85% efficiency! I’m just not sure what to do to get rid of the stiffness. Thank you.
Log in to replyHi Nicole! I think ice actually isolated the pain from my glutes to my left hamstring really tight and sore then radiating down to my left calf. It’s so painful. I’m still running but less mirage run. I don’t want to risk an injury. Can you pls tell me what stretching or exercises I should go to activate my gluteal muscles and then stretch my left hamstring and then left calf? So the pain doesn’t radiate from the gluteal muscles. Thank you. You’re awesome Nicole!!
Log in to replyHi Nicole! Sorry for inundating you with so many msgs and questions but I did the Clamshell exercise on my left side to activate my gluteal muscles and after awhile from this I feel so much better. The pain feels like it’s almost gone. I can’t believe this!!! I think I just needed to activate my glutes to stop the pain radiating from there all the way down my left hamstring to my left calf!! Thanks Nicole!! Pls tell me if I should do anything more too. Thanks! You’re truly awesome Nicole!! I know you’ll win the #5 Figure Olympia next!! #drivefior5
