I might be a little different, but I actually like doing cardio most of the time. I enjoy pushing myself and the feeling of my heart beating through my chest, going outside on a nice day for a run or going to the track and doing something athletic. But waking up at 6 am to get cardio in day after day can get very monotonous.
That said, I know I might be in the minority as far as liking cardio. So, here is a quick video showing a few techniques I like to use on the StepMill to help you switch things up to break up the monotony, kick up the intensity and burn a little more fat!
Thank you so much Nicole for this video! Great timing too. I need to diversify my cardio activities at the gym.

Thanks for this video! I just joined a new gym and have access to multiple step mills! Can’t wait to try this!
Log in to replyI can’t wait to try this!
Log in to replyFYI… The last couple minutes of the video related the very beginning of the video. You had just finished explaining about the ways to work outer thought and then it went and did first clip again lol.

Those are different clips, Nicole is reinforcing what she said in the beginning of the video.
Log in to replyOops.. Outer thigh not thought haha.
Log in to replyThank you for sharing different ways to switch it up.. I’ll even go backwards on stairmaster and also will get low and hold onto top part of stairs and do like that too.. It almost mimics Jacobs ladder.
This is great! I will try it for sure. I do hate cardio because I do get bored. Thank you for always giving us wonderful workout ideas! I’m glad that I am a member of your site.
Log in to replyI always stick to the treadmill for the same old cardio (running). But I am **definitely** going to try this tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for sharing! Becoming a member of your site is one of the best decisions I’ve made this year for my health. So many great ideas, tips, and tricks! Cheers…
Log in to replyI absolutely love the step mill. Another good variation, once you get acclimated to the machine and comfortable with all of these, is to go backwards. Its an advanced movement of course, but again is a great way to mix things up and incorporate other muscle groups….
Log in to replyOmg level 10 4 -5 makes me meltdown lol
Log in to replyDefinitely giving this a try during my cardio session on Monday and will let you know how it goes.
Log in to replyI have done all of theses recently and not only does it make the time go by faster. I have seen some changes in my glutes already … Thanks for sharing this!
Log in to replyThank you so much for posting this! I tried it out tonight, tricked me into staying on the step-mill for the entire 35 mins (no easy feat, lol). Can you please post more cardio workouts like this one? Maybe for other machines as well like the arc trainer? Can’t say it enough how much I love this website and how much it has helped me to stay on track, you rock Nicole!
Log in to replyThank you! I’ve been so intimidated by this beast of a machine. I think breaking up the monotony of it will help a lot. 🙂 I’m sure I’ll still be cussing at it though… 😀
Log in to replyThis looks like fun. I’ll definitely give it a try.
Log in to replyShoes! Where did you find those nikes!?
