Yes substitute with pull downs or try negative pullups. Jump up to the bar so that your chin is above it and then slowly lower your body down to a hang. Repeat. This type of training will help you build strength to eventually be able to do pullups.

You can always take the name of the alternative exercise and google it to see how it is performed. What can I do instead of pull-ups, I had rotator cuff surgery 3 1/2 months ago, so I am not pull up ready yet?

Log in to replyI can do strict pullups, but not that many at a time. Would it be better to do banded and get more or just keep doing strict?
