What’s your favorite healthy meal to kick off the day?

How do you deal with the pressure to eat “normal” when you’re dining out?

Not sure how to answer these questions? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. A solid nutrition plan is critical to reaching your goals and it can be tricky, but you’re in luck – because we’ve got 3 experts to help you do it right!

Our resident brain trust, Nicole Wilkins, Naomi Rabon, and Maureen Ashley, tackled these questions in our latest edition of the NW Fitness Group Training Team Roundtable. Here’s what they like to see on their plates and how they stay on track when temptation comes calling. And to prove they are indeed human and not gym-going cyborgs, they even revealed their favorite cheat meals for those times when they allow themselves a little treat 😉

What is your favorite heathy breakfast and how often do you have it?

Nicole Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. You can’t go wrong with 5 egg whites, one whole egg, oatmeal, and berries. I pretty much have this everyday. 😋

Naomi I typically eat 2 homemade “fat bombs,” (coconut oil and 100% dark chocolate), 2 tbsp of Crazy Richards peanut butter topped with sea salt, and coffee with 30g coconut milk, 7-14g of ghee, and 4-6 packets of Stevia. I eat this every day.

Maureen 4 egg whites, 1 whole egg, Glutenfreeda Instant Oatmeal (brown sugar flavor). I have this almost everyday. If it’s the weekend, I add 1 tbsp of peanut butter.

How do you deal with peer pressure when you’re trying to eat healthy?

Nicole I stay strong. If I give in to other people, then I prevent myself from reaching my own personal goals. Honestly, no one else cares about my body other than me. I usually say something along the lines of “No thank you, I am all set,” without giving any excuses or reasons why. 👍

Naomi Peer pressure when it comes to my own personal eating choice does not exist to me. I don’t mean to sound cold, but I could care less about someone else’s opinion of what I choose to put in my own body. If they have a problem with how I eat, then they really need to find something else to worry about. You eat your way, I’ll eat my way, and we’ll get along just fine.

Maureen I don’t let it become a “thing.” I am lucky that most people respect what I do for a living. If I eat out, I just order. I don’t say “Oh I am going to eat healthy”. I don’t drink much alcohol, and usually unhealthy foods follow a night of drinking so I am able to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of getting off track. If I am ever questioned about my eating patterns or habits, I will just refer to whatever it is I am training for at the time. This time around it’s a half marathon. I say, “This food fuels me for my training runs so much better than some other choices I have made in the past. I don’t want to die out there.” 😊 I try and keep it as light as possible. I don’t draw attention to what they are ordering, and in turn they don’t care too much about my order.

What is your go-to cheat meal?

Nicole Chicken and steak fajitas! I love Mexican food. I mean, you don’t even have to wait for food. You sit down and chips and salsa are delivered immediately!

Naomi Pizza (either a frozen Amy’s Pizza or a few slices of Papa John’s) or a hamburger from a local restaurant, The British Bulldog Pub: ½ lb Angus burger topped with a fried egg, bacon and guacamole (no bun). 🍔

Maureen Pizza with lots of sauce and light cheese, finished off with chocolate chunk cookies (vegan ones from Whole Foods).
